UPDATE: World-Wide Winners at IBC Innovation Awards 2015

Untitled

Tectonic Interactive, along with Channel 4, Endemol and Chunk, are awarded this year’s IBC Innovation Awards for Content Creation.

To quote IBC
“Three very different projects were contesting the award for most innovative project in content creation, embracing social media, local radio and sports oversight. The winning entry is the UK’s Channel 4 and its talent contest The Singer Takes it All. This was entirely dependent on an app, first to allow the contestants to audition karaoke-style, then for realtime voting on live shows to choose a winner. It was a witty and engaging way to recreate the excitement of live television. Technology partners were Tectonic Interactive, Chunk Digital, Endemol and Electoral Reform Society.”

We are proud to have developed the live interactive technology for the world’s first real-time interactive show. Being recognised by IBC as the most innovative projects out of 170 countries is truly fantastic.Andy Shaw, Tectonic Interactive’s CEO

Recognising app excellence and innovation across the ecosystem, the annual Appsters Awards took place in the O2 Arena on Wednesday 12th November hosted by comedian John Robins.

The Singer Takes It All was the world’s first truly interactive show which ran on Channel 4 throughout August 2014. It demonstrated that real-time interaction is both technically possible, at scale, and makes compelling TV. Viewers simply had to press a button on their app, to then see the pay-off on screen just seconds later. The 15% audience engagement level was a new record.

On the first show, 15% of the audience interacted with the show – a record for Channel 4 and Uk television.
2.4 million votes were cast by more than 142,000 viewers.

The show was developed by Endemol, live voting was developed on the award-winning Tectonic Platform and the app was developed by Chunk Games.

Technical issues in the studio hampered proceedings in the early stages of the show, but Gorman insisted the app was “faultless”, adding: “It’s a live show. We never say never, but we don’t anticipate any issues next time around.”

Singer Takes It All

Channel 4 debuts a new format in August fronted by Alan Carr in which voters use an app to propel their favourite acts on a movable stage towards the “gold zone” and a possible cash prize.

Tectonic Interactive is providing the technology which underpins the interactive singing contest where viewers can vote in real time.

The Singer Takes It All is scheduled to air in late summer and allows audiences to vote in real time using a free app.

The contestants who spend most time in the gold zone will compete for a cash prize while the less popular acts will head to the back and a likely elimination.

The four-part series will be hosted by Alan Carr and does not feature any judges although celebrity guests will interact with the contestants.

It is due to air in August over in a weekend slot and is being made by Big Brother producers Endemol.
