Free voting introduced to The X Factor app

This year The X Factor fans can vote for free for the first time in the show’s history via App, available for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.
The App is free and so is the brand new voting element.

ITV’s broadcast interactive partner, Tectonic Interactive, has developed the voting service which enables home viewers to vote quickly and easily via their apps.

The service is highly scaled in anticipation of a great response from the home audience. This is another example of ITV working with Tectonic Interactive to create new opportunities for ITV viewers to engage with their favourite show.

Channel 4’s “Singer Takes It All” gets almost 15% of viewers voting

Channel 4 has hailed the launch of real-time voting show The Singer Takes It All as a “massive success” after it registered a record proportion of viewers taking part.

A New record For Live Audience Interaction

The real-time TV voting platform, provided by Tectonic Interactive, handled a peak of 22,000 votes per second from 142,000 app users. In total 2.4 million votes were cast throughout the hour long show.

The new entertainment format launched on Friday night to a live audience of 991,000 with a record 14.3% of the audience interacting live with the show.

That beat C4’s previous interaction record, which was set by The Million Pound Drop in May 2011, when 12.4% of the audience interacted with the show.

Channel 4 multiplatform commissioner for entertainment Jody Smith told Broadcast that The Singer Takes It All’s app was the commercial broadcaster’s “most successful launch”.

“We’re amazingly happy with it. It’s a totally different concept, but people really got it and we saw consistent voting all night,” said Channel 4 head of entertainment Justin Gorman.

Technical issues in the studio hampered proceedings in the early stages of the show, but Gorman insisted the app was “faultless”, adding: “It’s a live show. We never say never, but we don’t anticipate any issues next time around.”

Endemol UK chief creative officer David Flynn claimed that at one point the voting peaked at “22,000 a second”.

The number of people downloading the app had increased “ten-fold” since the show began at 9pm on Friday, he added, from 30,000 downloads at the start of TX to 300,000 at the time of writing.

The Singer Takes It All app is currently the most popular free app in the Apple Store, and the most downloaded entertainment app for Android devices.

Oli was most recently one of the co-founders of social entertainment company WeR Interactive, where he developed the concept for I AM PLAYR which has let over 16 million users ‘playing the life of a footballer’. Nominated for a BAFTA for Best Online Browser Game, WeR scooped the Gold Cannes Lions Trophy. Oli received the H.100 Award for the 100 most influential and innovative people working across arts, culture and the creative industries in the UK.

The best of digital content and innovation were once again recognised with a coveted Broadcast Digital Award at this year’s gala dinner, which took place at London venue The Brewery on Wednesday 25 June 2014.

The Broadcast Digital Award  for”Best Platform Innovation” was awarded to the Tectonic Platform for the launch of in-app voting on The X Factor. Tectonic Interactive worked with ITV, Fremantle Media and Tellybug to introduce the in-app voting service which proved popular with viewers. The apps success led one judge to declare “This will change the landscape of television.”

The Broadcast Digital Awards is one of the most anticipated events in the UK digital broadcasters’ calendar. These are the only awards to celebrate the ever-changing digital market, honouring the best content and delivery across the UK. The Awards brought together over 500 of television’s most prominent individuals.
